When my family and I arrived at our new home on an old military base, I sighed hard at the color palate of brown, brown and brown. A dirt-for-a-front-yard house in the desert was now our home, and I wondered how my green-and-tree-lovin’ self could thrive in a seemingly bleak environment.
The answer, I soon found out, was through people. While the climate was arid and dry, the landscape overflowed with abundant, blooming comradery. That is the gargantuan blessing of living on base. The ready made community lends itself to infinite relationship-building opportunities. Lifestyle similarities were all I needed to grow friendships that provided joy, support and accountability.
I love how the NLT describes the benefits of living life together:
“A person standing alone can be attacked or defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer.” Ecclesiastes 4:12
God’s Word says when we have each other’s back, we conquer.
Sweet gals, as you begin The Husband Project book club, may I encourage you to seek out your own accountability partner? Someone with whom to bounce around ideas, share your heart, and wildly cheer out loud? Perhaps you live in an environment where life’s circumstances make finding an accountability partner easy. Perhaps you live where you must intentionally hunt for one. When thinking about friends from your church, neighborhood, or familiar on-base organization, could you ask the Lord to open the eyes of your heart to the possibilities in your surrounding landscape?
Whether your marriage climate resembles a desert or not, we all have room for improvements. Let’s grab a partner and jump in tandem as we fall into God’s grace allowing Him to work a new thing in us and our marriages!
Where might the Lord be leading you to find an accountability partner?
